The second match in Narbonne on Sunday featured Australia U20 against Japan U20 with both teams looking for a win following opening day losses in Pool A.

Australia ran out winners by eight tries to three with Topou, Hansen, Wood, Maafu, McTaggart and McDermott all crossing before replacement Lonergan bagged a late brace.

Japan responded with tries from Yamasawa, Yamamoto and replacement Vakalahi.

The result leaves Pool A as follows:
