It’s a pity, as the Women’s Club game in Ireland continues to diminish, that these competitions don’t get a bit more coverage. Mind you we’re ones to complain as we didn’t get to a single cup match over the weekend due to logistical problems and clashes with other competitions we were already scheduled to cover.  😯

As it was, the main Cup competition became a touch farcical with the only competitive match scheduled for this weekend cancelled as Cooke were unable to field for their semi final match away to UL Bohemian. The end result was a walk over for UL Bohemian, but I’m sure it’s not the result that any team wanted and certainly it reflects badly on the competition as a whole that a finalist is decided by a non-game.

Railway Union and Old Belvedere were organised enough to get their game rearranged and they will meet on Friday 9th March at Park Avenue to decide who goes forward to meet, defending Champions, UL Bohemian in the Final.

There was considerably more success in the Plate competition with both Semi Final fixtures competed. The results are shown below:

Blackrock 31 12 Shannon
St Marys 17 14 Highfield

Both matches went pretty much as we predicted in our preview with Blackrock and St Mary’s going on to meet in the Plate Final on 24th March at a venue to be decided.

The Shield Semi Final fixtures were also able to be competed, the results below:

Tullamore 26 12 Ballincollig
Ballynahinch 7 30 Rathdrum

The results were again pretty much as predicted with Tullamore and Rathdrum meeting for the second year in a row in the Shield Final on 24th March.
