UWM Congratulations are due to UW-Milwaukee Lady Panthers who have moved into the National Top Ten of collegiate women’s rugby rankings. This is a massive step forward and indicates that The Panthers are now regarded as one of the elite sides on collage circuit.

It marks an impressive progression for the team we met two years ago, on their tour of Ulster, and is a testament to the hard work and energy that the girls put into their chosen sport.

The National Top Ten Rankings now reads: -

1. Brown

2. Penn State

3. Brigham Young

4. Army

5. Air Force

6. Navy

7. New Mexico

8. Virginia

9. Eastern Illinois

10. UW-Milwaukee

The girls have a big game this weekend, away to Northern Iowa who are currently ranked 12th. After crossing the line nine times last week, to have them all disallowed, the girls are surely due a slice of luck.

How their season works.

The girls play five games in a six team league from late September through to early November. The top four then go into play-off semi finals and final.

The winner of the play off goes through to the national finals in March.

Due to the weather, rugby shuts down in the Midwest from mid-November through to the end of March.

Come March the girls will either be involved in the national play-offs or will be taking part in some of the many tournaments that abound in The States.
