Championship 1: Cooke 44 Lurgan 22

We caught up with the Championship 1 clash between Cooke and, newly promoted, Lurgan at Shaws Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Lurgan started the game well and they were rewarded with a try from Simon Cartwright who ran a good line to cross after 5 minutes for an unconverted try.

Cooke responded well and kept it simple to pick up a couple of penalties from full back Andy McMurray to take the score to 6 – 5 after fifteen minutes.

Andy McMurray kicked 14 points for Cooke in their game against Lurgan

A penalty from Lurgan’s Ben McIlwaine inched the visitors back in front, 6 – 10, at the end of the first quarter but a strong finish to the half saw Cooke take a 20 – 10 lead into the break after tries from Ryan Flavell and Ian Moxen, both converted by McMurray.
