Representative Rugby: Ulster U18 Clubs 29 EIRA 3

On Sunday, at lunchtime, Ulster U18 Clubs were at home, at Newforge Country Club, to the touring Eagle Impact Rugby Academy (USA). EIRA are regular visitors to Ireland, playing pre season friendlies in all 4 provinces.

Ulster kicked off into a warm breeze. Ryan McDowell, pictured above, claimed the hanging ball as it fell into the EIRA 22, and bounced off a couple of defenders, to score midway out to give Ulster a 5-0 lead, after only 15 seconds.

Livewire EIRA scrum half, Fatman Thorndyke, was a thorn in Ulster’s side until he went off injured

Thereafter EIRA camped in the Ulster half, allowing Ulster only the occasional breakout. Despite all the territory and possession, as halftime approached, they only had a solitary Shea Summers penalty goal for their efforts, against a stingy Ulster defence.
