Gordon West Cup: PSNI 5 Co Cavan 18

I swapped hockey for rugby at Newforge on Saturday afternoon to catch the re-arranged Gordon West Cup fixture between the PSNI and Co Cavan RFC with the teams playing for a quarter final match against CIYMS this coming weekend.

This was another evenly contested match that could have went either way. Put simply, Cavan made the most of their opportunities and the PSNI fluffed a few chances.

The PSNI looked to be creating the most opportunities in the early exchanges but Cavan began to work their way into the game and it was the visitors who took the lead with their wing forward Alistair Trenier going over out wide just before the break. Brandon Cooke added the extras to give Cavan a 0 – 7 lead as the teams changed ends.

Brandon Cooke knocked over two penalties and a conversion . . .
