Ireland Women’s Sevens side take part in the second round of the HBSC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Sao Paulo this afternoon.

Ireland are drawn in the same pool as Australia, Canada and Fiji with mathes scheduled as follows:

Canada 7s v Ireland 7s – 14.06 (UK/Irish Time)

Australia 7s v Ireland 7s – 16.28 (UK/Irish Time)

Fiji 7s v Ireland 7s – 19.34 (UK/Irish Time)

Ulster interest in the twelve player squad rests firmly on the shoulders of Cooke’s Ashleigh Baxter who’s swapped from the fifteen a side format to sevens for this season.

Ireland will be looking to improve dramatically from their last place finish in the opening round in Dubai, back in November, and having spent the previous couple of weeks training with Australia, the current World Champions, we would hope such improvement is forthcoming though we may have to be content with performance rather than results as it is a very difficult group.

Anything around ninth place or above would be a significant step towards qualification for the Rio Olympics.
