Gordon West Cup: Grosvenor 27 Letterkenny 17

The boot of Grosvenor full back kept the Belfast side’s nose in front as they defeated Letterkenny 27 – 17 in the Gordon West Cup Final at Belfast on Saturday afternoon.

Letterkenny gave pre-match favourites Grosvenor an early scare when fullback Kyle Samson went over for an early score. Out half converted to give the Donegal side a 7 – 0 lead.

The Belfast side, roared on by a raucous crowd, hit back with two tries by winger taking the score to 10 – 7. Despite missing the conversions Martin found his range with two penalties to put Grosvenor into a comfortable 16 – 7 lead.

Letterkenny fought back with a try from wing forward and when Robinson slotted over the conversion Grosvenor’s lead was reduced to 16 – 14.

Martin steadied the ship with two more penalties and Robinson replied  with one of his own to keep the match in the balance at 22 – 17.

Grosvenor’s Martin capped a fine personal performance with a late break and off load to  prop who embarked on a 20 yard side stepping run for the line to score the deciding try late in the second half. Grosvenor winning 27 – 17.
