Medallion Shield: Royal School Armagh 19 Rainey Endowed 21 Round 3

On a dry Saturday morning Rainey Endowed were the visitors to College Hill to play The Royal School Armagh in a 3rd round Medallion Shield tie.

Rainey settled quickest and took the play to Armagh. They trapped Armagh in their own half for long periods.

A clearing kick did not find touch and was run back by Rainey. A quickly recycled ruck gave Cillian McDonnell the chance to dart over, midway out on the left. He converted his try and Rainey were 7-0 up in 16 minutes.

If Rainey dominated the 1st 2/3rds of the half it was now the turn of Armagh to press for the remainder.

Matthew Cartmill, headboard, scored a 1st half try for Armagh

After several goal line stands Matthew Cartmill drove over from close range on 28 minutes. Ben Best’s conversion meant that the game was tied 7-7 at halftime.
