Ulster Rugby Championship 1: Carrickfergus 7 Enniskillen 31

A breezy but sunny day in Carrick, saw the hosts take on Enniskillen. Kick-off put back while the visitors negotiated the delights of the Westlink, but only a 10 minute delay.

Carrick started the brighter of the two sides, with the lion’s share of possession and territory in the open exchanges. After 6 minutes, Carrick’s Ryan McGonigle went over to open the scoring, nothing less than the hosts deserved for their dominance early on. The conversion slotted over by Fionn McCormack to make it 7 – 0.

A couple of minutes later, a deliberate knock-on saw Enniskillen’s Ingram sin-binned, with first thoughts being that they would be punished severely given the start Carrick had made. Although Carrick continued to dominate for the remainder of the opening quarter of the game, even with the man advantage . . .
