On Friday evening Ireland played Italy in the first game of the three game SoftCo International Series at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club. A warm sunny Friday evening at push back rapidly became windy and distinctly cool by full time.
Both teams set about the match with gusto. Play was end to end with keepers being troubled, however it was a scoreless 1st quarter.
The 2nd quarter continued where the 1st left off, with Italy gradually gaining some ascendency. This was converted into a goal by Thomas Keenan after 27 minutes, following a penalty corner. Italy took this 1-0 lead into half time.
