On Saturday afternoon Shannon, who had made the long trip from Limerick, played Malone in an AIL1B fixture at Gibson Park. I covered the first half of this game.
Playing with a strong, cold wind, Malone quickly established themselves in Shannon’s ‘22′ and scored, wide on the right, through Stewart McKendrick, converted by Callum Smith, to take a 7-0 lead.

John’O’Sullivan responded for Shannon with a well struck penalty goal, into the wind to reduce Malone’s lead to 7-3.
Pressure again told for Malone and Aaron Sexton scored an unconverted try for a 12-3 lead, which Malone took into halftime.

Playing with the wind, Jordan Prenderville scored an unconverted try for Shannon and the heartbreak was complete for Malone when they conceded a penalty try in the closing minutes to give Shannon a 15-12 victory and Malone, yet another narrow defeat.
