Despite the best efforts of both sides the match finished as a 0 – 0 draw. Lurgan looked to have the better of territory and possession but good defensive work and some excellent saves kept the teams scoreless over the 70 minutes.

This was the last round of pool matches in the EYHL before the new year and Frankie Brown has brought up to date with the action to date in both pools.

With the 2021 EYHL2 fixtures finished, Ulster based Ards and Leinster based Monkstown currently lead their respective pools, with Corinthian and Queens also looking like strong contenders in the early stages.

In Pool A, Ards and Corinthian both look like strong contenders. Ards, who are also unbeaten in the Ulster Premier League, have won 2 of their opening 3 games and with a 4-0 scoreline in their most recent game against Trinity, look to have found their form just before the Christmas break.

UCC currently sit in second, however Corinthian have 2 games in hand and based on their unbeaten Leinster Division 1 League run, similar to that of Ards, look like they could be fighting it out with Ards for top spot!

Trinity and Galway will be hoping to find better form after Christmas.

Meanwhile, Monkstown look like the team to beat in Pool B. They also have an unbeaten domestic League campaign so far and have won all of their opening 3 EYHL2 fixtures to date, Irish International Anna O’Flannagan contributing heavily to their impressive 9 goals scored.

Also in Pool B, Ulster teams Queens and Lurgan have looked promising in their opening 2 games, with Queens narrowly holding the second place position from Lurgan – however a strong defensive performance from Lurgan in their opening 2 draws have shown they are a hard team to break down and score against, only conceding 1 goal to date.

Both Cork Church of Ireland and NUIG will be looking for some wins in their 2022 fixtures to move up the table.

Once all games have been played in early 2022, the top team from each Pool go through to semi-final stages, while the first and second runners up will fight it out in a quarter final set of games.

In EYHL2, 5 points are awarded for a win and 2 for a draw, meaning it will be all to play for in 2022!
