Premiership Women: Belfast Harlequins 10 Dungannon 7

On Sunday Belfast Harlequins hosted Dungannon in a Women’s Premiership game at Deramore Park with Quins looking their first win of their campaign in the top division. Dungannon were sitting top of the table with 2 from 2 prior to the game.

Most of the first 20 minutes was a cagey affair, with defenses on top and was played between the 22s. Eventually the deadlock was broken when Harlequins No 8, , forced her way over in the right corner for an unconverted try, to give Quins a 5-0 lead.

Dungannon almost equalized a few minutes later after a fine solo run but the ball was knocked forward below the posts and Quins survived to lead 5-0 at halftime.

Play after the break was very much the same as the 1st half. Quins eventually doubled their lead, when Miller scored her 2nd try, this time in the left corner. The conversion failed and Quins lead 10-0, after 57 minutes.

Dungannon replied with a try under the posts. converted to reduce the deficit to 10-7 on 64 minutes.

Both teams had opportunities for further scores but failed to capitalize.

Quins ran out 10-7 winners in a game that could have gone either way.
