AIL 2B: Belfast Harlequins 9 Greystones 13

I caught up with the second half of this match on Saturday afternoon after hopping over from Newforge. I arrived during the break, however by the time I found a parking spot and got onto the pitch the second half was well underway. In the rush I left my phone in the car so I’m a bight light on details.

When I arrived Harlequins were leading 6 – 0 thanks to two penalties, I believe, and as I took my spot at the bottom end of the pitch the home side were on the attack.

James McKinney pushes the score to 9 – 0 in Quins favour.

Quins thumped away at the Greystones for a good 15 minutes winning a couple of attacking line outs but, despite coming close on a couple of occasions they had to settle for another penalty to take the score to 9 – 0 midway through the second half.

The bulk of the remainder of the game was played in the middle of the park but Greystones did venture into Quins territory a couple of time and when they did they invariably came away with points.

Killion Marmion kicked 8 points in the second half for Greystones.

Their out half landed two penalties to take the score to 9 – 6 with about 10 minutes to go and a break down the right ended with wing forward going over for a crucial try. Marmion added the extras to give a 9 – 13 scoreline and Quins were chasing the game with five minutes left.

Conor McAleer gets the crucial try for Greystones against Quins.

Unfortunately they were unable to make much of a dent to the Greystones defence in the closing stages and with the visitors scrum getting on top the home side couldn’t secure the clean possession they needed, the game ending without further score.
