Club Men: Belfast Harlequins 28 Queen’s University 17 Preseason

Belfast Harlequins entertained Queen’s in this friendly game, prior to the commencement of the Community Conference next Saturday.

From the start it was obvious that both teams intended to attack from deep, at times throwing caution to the wind, or at least, into a very gentle breeze!

From a counter attack Harlequins took the lead through a try, under the posts, converted by on 23 minutes. Queen’s countered immediately when drove over from close range. converted to tie the game.

Quins started to dominate loose play scoring two converted tries before half time. scored on 35 minutes and on the stroke of half time. Both tries were converted by Paul Kerr.

Quins started the 2nd half the way they finished the 1st. Glover added his 2nd try, again converted by Kerr on 48 minutes.

Flow was disrupted for both teams as legs tired in the heat and substitutions were made.

Jonny Hunter crosses for a second half brace for Queens

Queen’s found it increasingly difficult in the scrums, as Quins now dominated. However Queen’s found their way back into the game with two unconverted tries by after 60 and 74 minutes.

Frustratingly for Queen’s they ended the game knocking on in Harlequins ‘in goal’.

Quins were well worth their win, while Queen’s will rue costly mistakes.
