The Ulster A team was announced yesterday for their match against Connacht A in the Celtic Cup which takes place this afternoon at Ballymena RFC, kick off 16:00.

No word on the Connacht team but it’s likely to be a tough game with the teams both unbeaten to date and lying 2nd and 3rd on the FRU OFFICIAL table below.

Ulster will be hoping to keep the pressure on Leinster, who they face next week at the Energia Park, Donnybrook, and I suspect the game against Connacht will be a high scoring game with both sides looking to pick up try bonus points.

Ben Power in action for Ulster A against Leinster A in preseason friendly.

The Ulster squad sees the return of Ben Power and Zack McCall from the opening round with Ross Adair moving to the wing to accommodate Power’s return. Ethan McIlroy misses out on the wing and Tom Stewart makes way for McCall both, I presume, for injuries as they have been playing well.

The rest of the squad, including replacements, remains unchanged. They have gelled well under the guidance of Kieran Campbell and Willie Anderson and it’ll be a hard squad to break into.

Ulster A: Conor Rankin, Ross Adair, Hayden Hyde, Ben Power, Luke Pollock, Bruce Houston, Nathan Doak, Callum Reid, Zack McCall, Peter Cooper, Matthew Dalton, Jack Regan, Joe Dunleavey, David McCann, Azur Allison. Replacements: Claytan Milligan, Paul Mullen, Jonny Blair, JJ McKee, Matthew Agnew, Aaron Hall, Lewis Finlay, Michael Stronge.
