Club Youth: U14 Development Cup

Banbridge won the Ulster U14 Development Cup on Saturday afternoon at Ravenhill beating Carrick 7 – 3 in the final. However, after dominating much of this match, Carrick must be wondering how they let this one slip.

The first half was a cagey affair as both sides came to terms with the occasion. Banbridge looked strong in the scrum and Carrick looked the more willing to run the ball but neither side managed to make the final passes stick, the teams turning round with the score at 0 – 0.

Carrick upped their game in the second half and crossed the line four times, only for all to be ruled out due to a series of infringements. However, they did go into a 0 – 3 lead thanks to a penalty from their impressive No. 8 .

As the game wore on it looked as though three points would be enough but a searing break by Banbridge’s saw the centre outstrip the defence out wide to finish up under the posts for a converted try.

Carrick dug deep for a response in the remaining minutes but the Banbridge defence held firm to record a memorable 7 – 3 win at the home of Ulster Rugby.
