U20 Six Nations: Ireland 35 England 27

Ireland U20’s powered to a bonus point win against England U20 in a highly entertaining game at Irish Independent Park, Cork last night in front of a crowd of 5,764.

I must admit, my appetite for a nine hour round trip lessened considerably when the teams were announced. Only one Ulster based player in the squad, Banbridge’s David McCann as back row replacement, and with ice and snow forecast for most of the trip back I decided to give this one a miss.

On top of this, Ireland U20 coach Noel McNamara had struggled to focus his players last season as they consistently shipped tries the Six Nations which was followed by a disastrous U20 World Championship in France.

Expectations were not high. It was a powerful looking England side and  my expectations were if Ireland kept the defeat to less than 20 points it would be a result!

It looked as though it was going to pan . . .
