Campbell College booked their place at Kingspan Stadium with a 38-22 over Enniskillen Royal Grammar at Fox’s Field yesterday despite a hat trick from Enniskillen’s Callum Smyton.
The home side took an early lead through Dara Gaskin after he darted around the fringes of the ruck to score the opening try.
Eddie Keys kicked a penalty for Enniskillen with almost 15 minutes played before Campbell extended their lead thanks to Jack Boal. Jack Stinson charged down a kick from the Enniskillen scrum half and offloaded to his hooker.
Campbell’s backline was impressive and made big yards out wide through Conor Rankin and Danny Williamson. Ollie Ralston added Campbell’s third try after spotting a gap in the Enniskillen line.
Nevertheless, Enniskillen had a weapon in their maul and Smyton crossed for his side’s first try to give them a glimmer of hope heading into the break. There were a few instances in the first half when the away side had the upper hand in the maul and made some good ground through it.
However Campbell started the second half as they started the first and were rewarded with a fourth try through John Gildea.
Constant pressure from the home side paid off and Tobi Olaniyan crossed for the fifth try before Gaskin added his second try of the match.
The away side didn’t give up however and Smyton added his and his side’s second try just before the hour mark before completing his hat trick on the final whistle.
Final score: Campbell College 38 Enniskillen Royal Grammar 22.
Campbell will now face Royal School Armagh in the semi final at Ravenhill on Tuesday 5th March.
