Suttonians Women RFC caused a major shock in the opening round of the Women’s All Ireland Cup with a 15 – 5 win against AIL side Cooke.

The home side set the tone going straight for the line from kick off. Scrum half Kristina Aprahamian crossed for the first and the home side could have chalked up a couple more in the early exchanges. As it was Katie Grant Duggan crossed for Suttonians second to give the home side a 10 – 0 lead.

The opening quarter was one way traffic but Cooke eventually found some form with Vicky Irwin crossing mid way through the second quarter and with all conversions missed the teams turned round with the score reading Suttonians 10 Cooke 5.

The second half was a fairly dour affair the only score coming from Aprahamian with the scrum half crossing for her second and Suttonians third.

Final score: Suttonians 15 Cooke 5.

The home side make the jaunt across Dublin to St Mary’s next weekend for the second round match.
