It was a war of attrition in the trenches today, with Methody’s superb defence, ultimately, the deciding factor in a thrilling game.

Weather conditions were always going to decide how the game was played. After a cagey start MCB took the lead midway through the 1st half with a Ben Gourley try converted by Ethan McIlroy and the visitors doubled their lead just before the break with Chris Larmour crossing and McIlroy converting.

Early in the second half, Inst’s Robin McIlveen converted a penalty goal, but MCB soon replied with an unconverted try by Max Lyttle.

Midway though the second half 2 players were dismissed, after punches were thrown.

There was nothing between the teams for most of the rest of the game until Inst scored close to the posts through Ewan Magee, with McIlveen converting.

Methody thoroughly deserve their win and the bragging rights over their south Belfast rivals.
