Two tries from Ballynahinch II in the final quarter ensured their progress to the third round of the Millar McCall Wylie Junior Cup with the defending champions recording a 16 – 32 win against Cooke at Shaws Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The teams turned round with Hinch leading 6 – 12 after Matthew Norton landed four penalties for the visitors, Cooke’s Rob Mitchell responding with two.

Mitchell pulled the score back to 9 – 12 shortly after the break before Hinch’s James McBrier crossed in the corner. Jonny Backus replied for the home side and, with Mitchell converting, it was a one point game with the score at Cooke 16 Hinch 17.

However, Hinch pulled away in the final quarter as Norton extended the visitors lead before Lewis Finlay and Connor Phillips both crossed. Norton converted one to give a final score of Cooke 16 Ballynahinch 32
