Ulster A retain only five of the starting XV that were put to the sword by Leinster in last weeks Celtic Cup clash, with only three retaining their original starting position.

Centre pairing James Hume and Jack Owens remain in place, as does hooker Peter Cromie. Aaron Sexton swaps wings and Iwan Hughes moves from wing to full back.

Graham Curtis moves from the bench to take the starting scrum half berth, where he will partner new start Michael Lowry and the inclusion of Ireland 7s squad member Robert Baloucoune on the wing is the last change in the back line.

Up front Peter Cromie is joined by Peter Cooper, who picked up the MotM award last week after replacing Schalk vd Merwe at loose head, and Paul McGookin comes in at tight for Rodney Ah You. Matthew Dalton and Bradley Luney come in at second row and the back row is made up of Clive Ross, Matthew Agnew and Joe Dunleavy.

Marcus Rea, Michael Stronge and Bruce Houston maintain their bench spots with Stronge and Houston the only replacement backs and the rest of the replacements is made up of Claytan Milligan ,Tommy O’Hagan, Michael Cromie, Jack Regan and Aaron Hall, Michael Cromie joining his brother Peter in the squad for the second week running.

In Hume, Lowry, Cooper, Dalton, Agnew, Dunleavy, Regan, Rea and Hall the squad features nine players capped at Ireland U20 level in the last two seasons and it’s shaping up to look more like the sort of team I like to see at this level. With a party of 30 away to South Africa with the senior team there are few senior players in the squad and I think this helps the cohesion of the squad.

After last weeks defeat against Leinster at Malone RFC, the team are already on the back foot in this competition  and they face a strong Scarlets side who recorded a high scoring win away to Ospreys last weekend. It’ll be  a difficult encounter at Shaws Bridge but it should be an entertaining high scoring game.

The match kicks off at Shaws Bridge at 19:00 tonight, well worth a visit.
