The reboot of the Celtic Cup has sneaked up on us already this season with the first of six rounds kicking off tonight. Over the next six weekends the “A” teams from the four Irish Provinces will play their equivalent in the four Welsh regions plus the sequence is topped and tailed with matches against two of the other provinces.
Ulster face Leinster and Connacht as well as the four Welsh Regions.
At the end of the six matches the top Irish side will play the top Welsh side in the Celtic Cup Final at a date and venue still to be confirmed.
Confused? We’ll it’s all a bit of a mash up to replace the British and Irish Cup and if it has the feel that it’s all be thrown together, it’s probably because it has.
