Henry Speight joins Ulster as short term cover

Ulster Rugby have announced that Henry Speight will join the province on a short term deal until the 31st December.

Speight becomes the second Brumbies player to join the province on a short term deal after Christian Lealiifano. 

In a position where Ulster had numbers last season, the retirements of Andrew Trimble, Tommy Bowe, the injuries to Louis Ludik and David Busby as well as the departure of Charles Piutau have left a gaping hole in Ulster’s back three.

The Fijian born winger scored seven tries for the Brumbies in SuperRugby 2018 and made 786 metres off 118 carries. Defensively, he made 53 tackles and missed 18 tackles.

At 30, Speight has made 19 caps for Australia and was a Rugby World Cup finalist but he also represented Fiji in the 2007 Junior World Cup in Belfast. Speight was Australia’s form winger in 2017 and notched up a career high of eight tests during the last calendar year

He’s an athletic and powerful presence to have on the pitch and will cause havoc in the wide channels if Ulster can supply him with the ball. According to . . .
