The Women’s All Ireland Senior and Junior Cups progressed almost unnoticed last week. Mind you with a few BYE’s and and few Walk Overs both the organisers and the clubs could work a bit harder to raise the profile and the participation in what should be one of Ireland Women’s Rugby showpiece events.

It’s a pity as the match we covered, Malone v Ballincollig, was great fun – but more of that later.

The Senior Cup kicked off early with Railway Union and Blackrock pulling their game forward to the Wednesday with Blackrock pushing their hosts harder than in their league visit a few days earlier though Railway still came out on top by 27 – 14.

On Sunday one of our feature matches, Cooke v Highfield, was a walk over for Cooke and in the two matches completed UL Bohemian had a substantial 89 – 19 win against St Mary’s and Old Belvedere romped to a 72 – 0 win against Shannon.

This leaves the Senior Cup Semi Finals as follows:

UL Bohemian v Cooke
Railway Union v Old Belvedere

Matches to be played 24th February 2018

In the Shield Quarter Finals Ballynahinch and Tullamore had already received a BYE and Rathdrum got a walk over against Galwegians which left only one fixture and, lucky enough, it was our second feature match.

Malone entertained Ballincollig at Gibson Park on Sunday afternoon with the visitors coming out on top by 12 – 36 in an entertaining match that you can read about here.

So, the above result plus a walk over and 2 BYE’s leaves the Shield Semi Finals as follows:

Tullamore v Ballincollig
Ballynahinch v Rathdrum

Matches to be played 24th February 2018

The Plate Semi Finals and the Bowl final will be announce at a later date.
