Royal School Dungannon made their trip to Belfast a worthwhile one, returning home a with a place in the Danske Bank Schools Cup Fourth Round after a reasonably comfortable 7 – 23 win against their hosts Grosvenor Grammar.

The first half was a low scoring affair with Dungannon the only side to trouble the scoreboard. Luke McMullan got the board ticking over with an early penalty and Jono Shrestha touched down of the back of a maul for an unconverted try, giving Dungannon an eight point lead at the break.

The Dungannon pack continued to dominate at the start of the second half with James Wilson crossing for their second unconverted try and, from the restart, a break by Ben Nicholl ended with Adam Evans touching down for the third try of the game, this one converted by McMullan.

Despite trailing 0 – 20 Grosvenor kept pushing and they received some reward for their efforts when Ian Skillen blasted over for a try converted by Jos McConkey to pull the score back to 7 – 20.

Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly dispelled when McMullan stepped up to slot over his second penalty of the game, the match ending with the scoreboard reading Grosvenor Grammar 7 Royal School Dungannon 23.

Royal School Dungannon with now host Wallace High School in the next round of the Schools Cup, the match to be played on or before the 3rd February.
