Schools: Foyle College 5 Limavady Grammar 10

Limavady Grammar made the short journey to Foyle College for this North West Schools derby match on Saturday morning, the visitors coming away with a 5- 10 win.

Foyle applied most of the early pressure and spent the opening quarter firmly encamped in the Limavady 22.

Number 15 for Foyle had a great chip and chase over the Limavady try line, but the ball was well covered by the Grammar’s scrum half who got there just before the Foyle player.

The College eventually made the pressure count with their scrum half scrum half getting the first score of the game after picking up from a ruck in the corner and diving over from short range for the try. The resulting conversion attempt hit the crossbar to bounce back.

Limavady rallied somewhat toward the end of the first half, their out half landing a penalty to give them 3 points to take into the break

The home side again enjoyed the early possession and territory on the resumption but the visitors outside centre had an excellent game, consistently clearing the line for Limavady.

The penalties began to rack up against the home side and an early attempt by Limavady was just wide.

However, the Grammar team got stronger as the second half progressed and they started to consistently threaten the Foyle line. The pressure eventually paid off and number 14 scored for Limavady following a good break by number 13 from an attacking scrum.

The conversion was made by number 10 for Limavady to make it 10-5 in the visitors favour.

Limavady were under a lot of pressure for a lot of the match, but hard hitting tackles and well disciplined back line held firm to give them bragging rights in the North West.
