Difficult Day 2 for Ireland Women Sevens

Ireland Women Sevens team had a difficult second day at the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Las Vegas going down to defeats to USA, Russia and France in the Cup Competition and subsequent positional play-offs

The day started off with a re-match against the tournament hosts USA who Ireland had beten on Day 1 in the opening match of the tournament. Despite tries from Sarah Flood and Megan Williams, the second converted by Lucy Mulhall, Ireland went down by 20 – 12 with the USA scoring four tries in return. The result saw Ireland drop out of the Cup and into the play-offs for fifth place. 

In the play-offs the Irish girls faced, their recent nemesis, Russia who had knocked them out of Olympic Qualification last summer. Ireland struggled to shake off the disappointment of losing to the USA and Russia cruised through to a comfortable 20 – 5 win, Megan Williams the only scorer for Ireland. The result left Ireland with a final play-off game with France for seventh place.
