Rugby Legend Supports Local Dealership

Ulster, Ireland and British Lion legend Stephen Ferris is delighted to announce that he is the new Brand Ambassador at Mervyn Stewart Skoda.  The partnership will see Stephen work alongside the team to promote Mervyn Stewart Skoda and raise awareness of the benefits of buying from a local dealership.

To celebrate the announcement Stephen took part in a bespoke breakfast morning Q & A with Mervyn Stewart Skoda special guests and customers – treating fans to all the latest insights on local rugby and signed copies of his book.

Mervyn Stewart is a family run business, with expert local knowledge – operating in Belfast for over 50 years.  Stephen Stewart, Managing Director of Mervyn Stewart Skoda commented:

“We are thrilled to have Stephen join our team here at Skoda as our Brand Ambassador – he’s been a long term supporter of the brand. On the pitch Stephen had amazing energy, strength and total commitment to excellence and that makes him a great fit for our team.  Injury may have forced an early retirement from the pitch but Stephen’s career continues to thrive – establishing himself as a straight talking, no nonsense pundit in the commentary box.  Stephen’s workload is never ending with The Six Nations around the corner but he always makes time to pop into the showroom for a browse and a chat with our staff.”

“I’m no stranger to the team at Mervyn Stewart – having owned several Skoda’s myself.”  Stephen comments:  “I love my cars, so when I heard I’ll get to try out the exciting new range as it comes in I signed up straight away.  A modern design, reliable, safe, efficient and competitively priced – that’s what I look for in a car.”

Stephen has been driving the outstanding Octavia 2.0 TDI VRS but recently took delivery of the all new Superb 2.0 SEL Executive.

On Rory Best:

“What a week it’s been for one man in particular within the RBS 6 Nations Ireland Squad. Rory Best, a friend and rugby colleague for many years, is now going to lead the Irish team as captain. No better man for the job.

I am very proud of his achievements to date and I know he will relish the challenge which lies ahead of him. His 90th Cap will be one to remember when he leads the team out against Wales on the 7th February at the Aviva Stadium.”

On the Ireland Squad:

“An exciting squad has been picked yet again by Joe Schmit. A mixture of seasoned internationals and fresh young blood with 4 uncapped players. CJ Stander, now Irish qualified, for me is one of the best back rowers in Europe. Once again the backrow where I used to apply my trade will be very competitive.

“I’m not sure what the starting 15 will be in only a few weeks’ time but one position where I think an uncapped player deserves a shot is at inside centre – Stuart McCluskey is big, strong, skilful and deceptively fast. After beating Brian O’Driscoll’s number one pick (Garry Ringrose) into the squad, I really do expect Stuart to feature.

“In general the squad is fairly settled, and it has been for a good few years now. But one question that every Irish fan will be asking – how will this team cope without Paul O’Connell? Hopefully this question is answered with another RBS 6 Nations Trophy.”

Predictions:

“I don’t believe the Irish team is as strong as it can be. With Iain Henderson out for the most part of the season, Paul O’Connell retired from international rugby, Pete O’Mahony out for the season, and the likes of Jared Payne and Robbie Henshaw having very little game time, surely it will be harder for the guys to retain the trophy but never write the Irish off. As Warren Gatland said this week – write Ireland off at your peril. I do believe they have a chance, but so do the rest of the teams.

“One thing I hope every Irish fan has learnt from the World Cup – never take any game for granted. The World Cup is now in the past, let’s look to the future and get behind the boys in green.”
