PRO12: Ulster 48 Treviso 7

This was a jolly romp for Ulster even if it was so one sided that my attention did stray at times, however for much of the game the crack on the terrace was better than the rugby on it!

No disrespect to Ulster, or Treviso for that matter, but the Italian’s were so out-gunned that they struggled to be competitive and when Ulster did move, fairly smoothly, through the gears the visitors were left grasping at thin air.

Ulster secured the bonus point by the break with tries from Dan Tuohy, Sean Reidy, Paul Marshall before a wonderful solo effort from Craig Gilroy that got the stadium rocking.

Stuart McCloskey got plenty of kicking practice adding two conversions and a penalty to give Ulster a 27 – 0 lead at the break.

Ulster were slow to get going in the second half and Treviso took full advantage with sending Sam Christie over. Jayden Hayward knocked over the extras to make it a seven pointer but any thoughts of a revival ended there.

An Ulster line out provided the platform for Peter Browne to barge over and with McCloskey converting Ulster were back to a 27 point lead.

Gilroy capped a fine performance with his second try, after good work by McCloskey, and Lewis Stevenson, who’d been looking for a try from his appearance on the 57th minute, eventually crossed for his first ever try for Ulster with four minutes left. Peter Nelson converted both to give Ulster a 48 – 7 win.
