Andrew Trimble will become Ulster’s most capped player when he take the field for the Red Hand for the 190th time, passing Paddy Wallace’s record of 189. Congratulations to the big man, but I’m sure he, like us, wishes that the landmark was being passed a few months down the line after a successful World Cup campaign.
Not really much to report on the team apart from that. Up front Dan Tuohy, Sean Reidy and Robbie Diack replace Franco van der Merwe, William Faloon and Nick Williams for squad rotation and personal reasons and in the backs Trimble is the only replacement with Rory Scholes dropping to the bench.
Ulster have plenty to prove after a shambolic performance against Scarlets away three weeks ago and no better man than Trimble to inject the right amount of vim and vigour as they set about the Italians.
