Club: Larne RFC kicks off Game of Three Halves

Larne Rugby Club kicked off the community initiative “A Game of Three Halves” on Friday night at their Glynn club house.

The event involved players from Larne Rugby Club Youth, Larne Football Club Under 19’s and Shane O’Neills and Latharna Og Hurling Clubs with the young players taught the skills of rugby, football and hurling by the various clubs coaches.

Local sports stars from the borough were happy to speak at the event with the list including Trevor Ringland (Ulster, Ireland and British and Irish Lions), Marty Rogers (Northern Ireland U21’s, Chelsea, Cambridge and Motherwell), Dianne Barr (Double Gold Paralympic medalist), Dave “Boy” McAuley (Former World Boxing Champion), Roy Webb (European Boxing Champion and Commonwealth medalist), Liam Watson (Hurling All Star) and current hurler John Campbell.

The 60 participants took part in a well structured series of of coaching drills involving the various sports, with the coaches keen to give it a go at the other sports as well, before enjoying a barbeque sponsored by john McIlwaine.
