It was another night of high drama at the new look Ravenhill on Friday night as Ulster went down 20 – 22 to Leinster in this table top clash.
The opening ceremony may have culminated in a cringe-worthy dance routine (just what was Rory Best doing with that flag in the middle of the field?) but we were there to watch the rugby and boy oh boy did it live up to it’s billing with the players producing a dramatic extravaganza that had the 18,000 crowd heckling, hollering, hissing and hooting in equal measure – fantastic!
As for the stadium, I might miss the old girl on occasion, but it appears that the sleek and sophisticated new model certainly knows how to hitch up her skirts and get the party started! Long may it continue.
I’d had my concerns in my preview about the front row, Warwick in particular, and when the Ulster pack collapsed in the first scrum, at six minutes, to give Leinster a 0 – 3 lead from a Madigan penalty, I was preparing . . .
