One of Ulster’s most scenic rugby clubs plans a spectacular weekend of entertainment centred round the Giro D’Italia.
Giro fever is sweeping Northern Ireland and Larne Rugby Club are determined to become one of the best vantage points for watching the world’s second largest cycle race as it passes by their scenic club house situated on the shore of Larne Lough in the picturesque village of Glynn.
The club have organised a full range of activities to celebrate this world wide event with activities starting at their Glynn Playing Fields on Friday evening with the first night of their Viking Music Festival and activities roll straight through to Saturday with the Giro Caravan passing their extensive grounds at approximately 2:00pm with the Giro itself expected around 3:15pm.
It doesn’t end there though as live coverage of the Munster v Ulster match will be available in the clubhouse from 6:30pm to be followed by the second night of the Viking Music Festival.
Food and drink will be available throughout the weekend and a late license for both nights for the Marquee Bar.
Free and secure camping will be available throughout the weekend. Campers will be able to use the club changing facilities and showers and breakfast will be available Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The running order for the activities is as follows.
Friday 9th May
The launch of the Viking Music Festival will feature Rock and Blues bands playing in the big marquee with late licensed bar available.
Friday night’s band line up features Mean Bobe, 3 Play and Shotgun.
Food and drink on will be available from 6:00pm
Admission: Weekend Pass: £15 (Fri & Sat), Saturday only: £10
Free Camping Available Friday and Saturday nights with bike locks and shower facilities.
Saturday 10th May
Charity bike ride on Saturday morning at 8am. The ride will go cross country to Glenarm where refreshments will be available. They will then return using the coast road along the route the Giro will take back to the Club. (Note: this event will cost £35 including access to 2 nights of entertainment and free camping.)
Note that the roads to the Glynn and Larne will be closed from 12:00pm – 4:00pm.
The Giro Caravan passes at approximately 2:00pm
The Giro D’Italia Cycle Race passes at approximately 3:15pm

A Charity Family Bike Ride starting from Larne Town Centre (Agnew Street Car Park) at 11am out to Larne Rugby Club

Munster v Ulster live in the Clubhouse
Viking Music Festival Rock and Blues music (Over 18s & starting at 6.45pm). Line up features: The Rough Diamonds, The Mighty Mojos, Pigs’n Pearls and Odibal.
Car parking is available on Saturday (£5) but limited spaces.
