Ulster: Stephen Ferris signs contract extension with Ulster and Ireland

by

,

A degree of clarity has been provided about the immediate future of Stephen Ferris, but whether we see him an Ulster shirt again is still anyone’s guess as the statement released by Ulster Rugby yesterday afternoon only takes us to the end of 2013. There is no coincidence that this period is the same as the estimated recovery time Ferris requires from his latest operation.

However it does bode well that Ulster and Ireland have stepped up to ensure that Ferris gets the best available rehabilitation and, reading between the lines, the goodwill factor would suggest that the big man will stay on with his native province should he make a full recovery.

Should things pan out the return of a fully fit Ferris would be a huge boost for Ulster, equivalent to any big name signing, and could be the final piece in the jigsaw for a concerted effort in the Heineken Cup adding the hard physical presence that Ulster lacked in key games last season.

Nothing much more to add – lets just relax and see how his recovery progresses!
