Ireland: Shock of the summer as Olding omitted for Canadian clash!

The Ireland team to play Canada at the BMO Stadium in Toronto on Saturday night has been named. The selected side shows a seven changes from last weekend’s win over the USA as Les Kiss’ charges prepare for the final Test of the season.

There are four Ulster players in the starting line up with Darren Cave, Andrew Trimble, Tom Court and Dan Tuohy all getting the nod. I suspect that we’ll see a fairly large Ulster contingent finishing the game with Declan Fitzpatrick, Chris Henry, Paddy Jackson and Paul Marshall all expected to make an early appearance from the bench.

Disappointingly the Man of the Match against the USA, Stuart Olding, fails to make an appearance with Ireland, obviously looking to blood new talent, bringing in 32 year old James Downey to don the green jersey for the first time alongside Darren Cave! However, with a virus reportedly working it’s way through the squad this week, it is difficult to say what effect this has had on the team selection. In my opinion illness should be the only thing excusing the omission of the likes of Olding, Marmion and Henderson in what is after-all a development . . .
