Women: Ballymoney 10 Carrick 0

Carrick Ladies travelled to Ballymoney on Sunday to play the match which would decide the Rejenerate SM cup finalists. The highly anticipated fixture was originally scheduled to be played in Carrick, however waterlogged pitches forced the change of venue on Saturday evening.

The home side kicked off what would be an eventful match and it became apparent the biting cold and rain were not going to deter the 30 players, all of whom wanting nothing more than a place in the final. It soon became apparent this match would be brutal and physical, mirroring the previous meeting between the sides earlier in the season which saw Carrick suffer their only defeat of the season.

Play occurred mainly in the middle of the pitch for the first ten minutes, with a number of line outs and scrums breaking up play. A high tackle caused the first upset of the match – a red card for the Ballymoney out half, leaving them to complete the match with 14 players.

Despite being a player down, Ballymoney continued their assault on the Carrick defence, resulting in a try and a 5 point lead courtesy of Julie Newton after the missed conversion.
