The Ireland team to play Wales in the opening game of the RBS 6 Nations Championship next Saturday in the Millennium Stadium has been named.

Kidney has once again dipped into the well of limited expectations and produced an uninspiring selection, the only surprise being Gilroy starting on the wing. Succession planning is going well at half back; what with Sexton expected to be flogged to death in France next year it’s good to see that young hopeful Ronan O’Gara has been brought into the squad to add some experience to his meagre 126 caps.

The back row ballix continues with the posturing, and ineffective after 10 minutes, O’Mahoney in at six to unbalance a back row that should have read O’Brien, Henry, Heaslip and it’s this selection that will probably cost Ireland the game against a fairly lightweight Welsh side.
