The Front Row Union 2012 Player of the Year – Open Voting.

Thanks to Ulster’s Heineken Cup run the Man of the Match voting has went on for bit longer than usual. To date we’ve racked up over 2000 votes even though two matches, Aironi and Scarlets away, were discounted as there was no live coverage.

Ulster included 54 players in their match day squads this year with some of the youngsters coming through and making a name for themselves. Patrick Jackson recorded 139 votes from the 18 squad appearances he made but Ian Henderson also made a big impact in his two appearances recording 36 votes or 18 per match, the highest per match record.

To date, last years winner,  Ruan Pienaar is out in the lead with 170 votes but Stephen Ferris is not far behind with 157 votes but there is plenty to fight for with the top seven, Pienaar, Ferris, Paul Marshall, Afoa, Jackson, Wallace and Henry all recording over 100 votes.

Reviewing the results to date by position throws up some interesting comparisons and reflects the style of play Ulster preferred this year with the back three recording comparatively low scores compared to the back row and half backs as shown below.

Where is Lewis Stevenson he’s not on the list but has played more games than a number of the other lesser players who are on the list! It is a complete social injustice that such a valuable team member would be left out imagine how low his self esteem is now that he’s been left out of the fru player of the season award!!!!!

Ah Toppo, my young friend. You will learn as you get older that life is tough and very often unfair! I’m sure Lewis knows this already and a hard working player like he is is only in it for the personal satisfaction, not the glory!
