Scotland may as well be Outer Mongolia as far as coverage of the Under 20’s and the Women’s game is concerned though we have been able to find some sources for the game as Ireland’s ladies recorded their second win on the road bouncing back from their narrow defeat against France a fortnight ago in Ashbourne.

IRELAND’S Women roared to a thundering four-try triumph over Scotland to clinch their second victory on the road in this year’s RBS 6 Nations.

Lynne Cantwell stormed over twice while Geraldine Rea and Niamh Briggs also touched down as the girls in green bounced back from a narrow defeat against France last week.

Cantwell gave them the perfect platform as she powered through Charlotte Veale‘s attempts to stop her and crossed for an unconverted try.

The hosts responded well, battling their way back into the game, and their efforts were rewarded when winger Lauren Harris charged through to level the scores.

Ireland piled on the pressure before half-time with Scotland defending resolutely to ensure it remained 5-5 at the interval.

But Phillip Doyle‘s girls cranked up through the gears in a second-half which saw them score 17 points without reply.

After a number of well worked drives, Rea brushed off a couple of Scottish tackles to force her way over – but she soon went from hero to sin-bin-based villain.

Not rolling away from a ruck earned the lively centre a yellow card, but Ireland sat tight to contain and guarantee there was little chance of a Scottish resurgence.

Shortly after her return, full-back Briggs weaved her way through after a sustained period of pressure to give Ireland a ten-point cushion.

And Cantwell top and tailed the convincing win with a cutting dart through Scotland’s rearguard before Briggs stepped up to add Ireland’s only extras of the day.

Their remaining fixtures see them away to Wales in two weeks’ time before they wrap things up with a mouth-watering clash with England at Ashbourne RFC on Friday, March 18 (kick-off 7.30pm).
