The Ulster Women’s side has been announced for this season’s opening Inter provincial against Leinster on Sunday afternoon. KO 2:30pm.
The squad sees a welcome return to competitive rugby for prop Lauren Day who’s looking forward to making up for lost time after missing out on World Cup action after breaking her wrist.
Ulster’s star of the World Cup tournament, Eliza Downey (above) slots in at full back and the Cooke flyer will be keen to build on the impressive form shown during the tournament.
The Irish International duo will be joined by Ireland legend Grace Davitt who adds considerable experience to a young backline.
Lizzie Ballentine is appointed captain for the opening fixture and scrum half Imogen Porter steps in as vice captain in this Cooke dominated squad.
City of Derry have made some headway against the Belfast sides influence with Stacey Lea Kennedy and Glenda Mellon starting and Kelly Holmes on the bench. Derry’s Rachael Flemming was also in the reckoning for a starting birth until a broken finger rulled her out of this series.
Belfast Harlequin’s Claire Knipe has forced her way into the starting line up with some impressive displays this season and Claire is joined by the tenatious Zoe Templeton who will be hoping for a run out at some stage of the game.
The subs bench see’s the feisty Cavan duo of Hilary Quinn and Brigid Reynolds who will certainly make an impact should they get on and Enniskillen will be delighted to see that Alana McCaffery has made the squad despite the club going through some difficult times fulfilling fixtures.
