Truth stranger than fiction?

It seems like “only worn once” rugby tops aren’t the only thing that the bog men are returning in droves but these doyens of all things rugby have decided to miss out on the European Cup showpiece final in Edinburgh later this month.

However as this article in the Belfast Telegraph reports it appears that not all the tickets are going to their near neighbours but to the supposed “hated English”. The “Hand of Back” moves in mysterious ways!

Leinster and their supporters are furious with Munster fans who are selling their Heineken Cup final tickets to their Leicester Tigers counterparts following their semi-final defeat last Saturday.

Leinster defeated Munster to set up a final showdown with Leicester in the Edinburgh final on May 23 and spark a frantic scramble for tickets among their supporters.

Both finalists will receive an allocation of just 7,500 tickets each from the ERC, with the majority having gone on general sale in mid-season.

Munster fans, confident of their team getting to their third final in four seasons, bought up a sizeable proportion of those tickets and yesterday, some of those were being offered for sale to Leicester fans on their official website and other forums.

While their was no official comment from Leinster yesterday, there is widespread anger among officials and supporters alike at the notion of Munster fans offering tickets to Leicester rather than fellow Irishmen.

While many Munster fans are happily off-loading their tickets to their Leinster counterparts with best wishes for the final, the fact that there are others prepared to aid the cause of an Irish team’s opponents is viewed as being opportunistic at best, mean-spirited at worst, while some have even labelled it ‘unpatriotic’.
