Limavady entertained near neighbours Ballymoney RFC in the second round of the Junior Cup on Saturday afternoon with the visitors progressing to the quarter-finals following a 17 – 36 win in an entertaining match.

The home side were first on the scoreboard after a period of pressure on the Ballymoney line ended with Limavady picking and driving over for a converted try,

Ballymoney responded through Daniel Ramage who sprinted clear to score close to the posts. James Cleland converted to level the score and shortly after Cleland stepped up again to convert a try by captain John McFedridge to give Ballymoney a seven point lead.

That’s how it remained until the break with play concentrated between the 22’s.

Ballymoney’s Ian Moxon got the first score of the second half with a quick tap penalty ending beside the posts and with Cleland converting the visitors lead 7 – 21.

Cleland added a penalty before Limavady hit back with their centre crashing over out wide for an unconverted try. However, the visitors kept a safe distance in front when Thomas Hunter crossed to take the score to 12 – 29 in their favour.

The two teams swapped tries in the closing minutes with Ballymoney adding a conversion to give a final score of Limavady 17 Ballymoney 36.

Ballymoney now progress to the quarter finals of the Junior Cup where they will be joined by City of Armagh (2), Ballynahinch (2), Coleraine, Banbridge (2), Enniskillen, Malone (2) and Portadown.
