The Women’s All Ireland Cup Final was held in Dubarry Park, Athlone, on Sunday afternoon between UL Bohemians and Blackrock. These teams have met already twice this season in the All Ireland League with UL Bohemians coming out on top, but Blackrock looked keen to make amends.

Report by Aishling O’Connell.

We did find an Ulster connection in this match as well with Cavan’s finest, Helen McDermott, playing at scrum half for Bohs!

Women's All Ireland Cup
In a big weekend for Co Cavan RFC, Cavan Women’s players O’Connell and McDermott catch up on the goings on at Ravenhill the day before.

UL Bohemians got on the scoreboard first with two tries, the first from Liz Burke soon to be followed by one from Sara Hartigan. Edel Murphy successfully converting both.

Eimear Corri (left) crossed for Blackrock against UL Bohemian.

Blackrock hit back though, with Eimear Corri making a break to cross out wide, giving a score of 14 – 5 to Boh’s at half time.

The second half kicked off with Chloe Pearse driving over the line and Murphy kicking between the posts to extend Boh’s lead but, once again, Blackrock came straight back this time with a try from Carmela Morey moving the score to 21 – 10.

Anna Caplice had a strong game for UL Bohemian.

UL Bohemians upped the tempo and winger Burke crossed for her 2nd try.

With only 20 minutes left Blackrock fought back hard. Some flawless back line moves brought the Dublin outfit into UL’s half for scrum half Niamh Griffin to touch down under the posts. Michelle Claffey added another two points.

Unfortunately for ‘Rock it was too little to late, Bohemians securing the Women’s All Ireland Cup with a final score of UL Bohemians 26 Blackrock 17.
