It was a big week in the Women’s All Ireland League with a couple of sensational results. Pride of place goes to Railway Union who inflicted the first defeat this season on UL Bohemians at the Limerick sides Annacotty fortress.

Ulster’s Nikki Caughey opened the scoring for Railway in a tight match and Canadian international Emma Taylor scored the decisive try three minutes from time to give the visitors a 6 – 8 win.

In our featured match Cooke Women secured their league status with a sensational display at Shaw’s Bridge against Galwegians. Rebecca Smyth topped and tailed the scoring for Cooke with the first and last tries of the game.

Brittany Hogan, Vicky Irwin and Sarah Gibson also scored in the first half to give Cooke a 24 – 5 lead at the break and the home side ran away with it in the second half with Irwin again crossing to be followed by Beth Cregan, Jemma Jackson and Shirelle Wilson before Smyth claimed the last. Irwin and Jackson added three conversions each to give Cooke a 57 – 10 win.

In the other two fixtures St Mary’s and Blackrock scrapped out a draw at Templeville Road, the result consigning St Mary’s to relegation. The much improved Highfield recorded their sixth win of the season with a 10 -19 win at Old Belvedere.
