PRO12: Ulster 38 Dragons 8

Ulster consolidated their third place spot in the PRO12 with a comfortable 38 – 8 win against a disjointed Dragons side last night at Ravenhill.

The tries came from Ruan Pienaar, Tommy Bowe (2) and Sean Doyle with the forwards chipping in en-mass with a penalty try. Paddy Jackson converted them all and Ruan Pienaar slotted over a trademark long range penalty early in the game.

With the Dragons announcing earlier that day that they had dispensed with the services of their head coach Darren Edwards this game was always going to go one of two ways: either a valiant rear guard act of defiance or a bit of a drubbing.

Fortunately for Ulster, who needed a big win after their last dismal outing, it was the latter and after a scrappy opening fifteen minutes, when all they had to show for their efforts was a long range penalty from Ruan Pienaar, the South African maestro was on hand to run in a try after a Darren Cave break. Paddy Jackson added the extras and Ulster led 10 . . .
