How are CAI below wallace? They have a higher win ratio and opponent rating!

Indeed they do, and are only 8 points behind Wallace in fact. The reason they are not rated above them is because that Coleraine AI have just played a 2nd round Cup match while Wallace HS will not enter until the 3rd round next month; this means that Wallace HS have a higher competition score than Coleraine AI at the moment. Once Coleraine play their match against Regent on 8th February you should expect to see them with a higher score (win, draw or loss) because they too will be given a 3rd round competition bonus.

This use of competitive bonus may seem unfair at times given that it is a decision made by Ulster Branch as to where teams enter the Cup but it is necessary to prevent teams who have played easier opposition being rated much more highly than those who haven’t. For example, Lurgan College have a very healthy 0.708 win ratio but most of this has come against weaker opponents; if their competitive progress was not taken into to consideration they would probably be ranked somewhere towards the top-ten rather than mid-table as seems appropriate.

Thanks for your comment; hope that all makes sense! 🙂
