Ulster produced another memorable performance in the Heineken Cup, this time at Welford Road, as they completed the pool stages undefeated with a 19 – 22 win against Leicester Tigers.

Ruan Pienaar grabbed the headlines, and all the points, with a try, conversion and five penalties but it was the aggressive defensive performance from all the team that laid the foundation for the win.

I’d said in my preview that I was worried about the back row and the fitness of Nick Wiliams in particular but, despite a few handling errors from the affable Kiwi, he proved a constant thorn in the side of the Leicester pack, wrecking their driving mauls and dragging Ulster forward in their own during his 55 minutes on the pitch nullifying the Premiership sides most potent weapon . . .
